Movement Is the Oldest Medicine
Before there were clinics or prescriptions, there was motion. Your body still runs on it, and most of us aren’t getting enough.
Human beings were never made to sit still. For most of human history, we know that the body doesn't move well when we don't eat, take care of it, or when it's overridden with dis-ease. In the ancient and even primitive time periods of existence, we walked for miles, carried loads, climbed, lifted, and reached new heights.
And in the span of a few generations, we have almost removed movement as a part of our daily life with people working at computers or phones like the one you're on now, societies transportation systems, and much more.
Yet, here's the thing that no pill or any type of propaganda has ever matched: movement. Movement does more good across more of the body that anything else available to you and it costs nothing. When you move, your heart works and grows stronger for it. Your lungs pull deeper. Blood pushes into tissues that go starved and stiff when you’re still, carrying oxygen and nutrients in and carrying waste away. Joints are fed by motion; the fluid that keeps them healthy only circulates when they’re used. A body in motion is a body doing maintenance on itself.
How movement influences your mood
The best part of all is that movement affects your mood as well. Anyone who has been in a bad mood knows that once they start moving, working, or changing their state and chemistry of the body, the brain changes as well. It eases tension, lifts the fog from the brain, and even causes changes to the mind that settle the mind in ways that “thinking” never can. Some call it exercise, some call it good for the soul. But the effect is the same. The body responds to the mind, and the mind responds to the body. These things have never been separate.
Now here's the part that most people don't think about. When something hurts, the instinct is to stop moving, to protect the body, and to stay still + stagnant. But that doesn't fix anything.
Where Chiropractic Fits In
A chiropractor’s whole focus is to restore proper alignment, motion, and communication into the body. Finding where people have lost it, where the joints have stopped moving well, and even where the muscles are tightened to guard against a potential threat or injury. That's why the adjustment is so important. It restores motion. What matters is what you do with the motion and functionality when you have it.
To stay the same and repeat the old patterns or allow the body to reorganize into a higher state of expression and consciousness.
